Jina Valentine

- Our class had another guest artist come in today- Jina Valentine. She works only in paper, whether it be: photos, small sculpture or "exacto drawing"(my term). This piece is part of her Witch Hazel Bark exhibition. She is also going to have art in the Sweetow Gallery this April- check it out. This is an excerpt from the website provided below.

Born in 1979 in Philadelphia, Jina Valentine received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh (2001), and is currently an MFA candidate at Stanford University (2009). She has had residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture (2005); Women’s Studio Workshop, Rosendale, New York (2006); Santa Fe Art Institute on the Joan Mitchell Fellowship (2006) and in 2007 Valentine received the Sculpture Space Fellowship, Utica (2007). Valentine has had solo exhibitions at Fleisher/Ollman Gallery, Philadelphia (2007) and Steve Turner Contemporary, Los Angeles (2007). Her work was included in Frequency at the Studio Museum in Harlem (2005) and in Common Destination: Selections Fall ‘06 at The Drawing Center, New York. Valentine uses materials and processes traditionally associated with craft or folk arts to address issues relating to pop-culture and media saturation.
